Be in harmony

Throughout December I’m inviting you to join me in some simple practices that will help you slow down and increase your ability to focus. We do this by strengthening our awareness which opens up our capacity to choose.

Today, I’m inviting you to flex your listening muscles.

Choose a favourite piece of music, sit down comfortably, and take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes and really listen.

Notice which instruments you hear, the tempo and the volume. Notice how it varies and where you hear the music in your body.

Notice any thoughts or feelings that arise, connected memories, outside anxieties. Let any thoughts pass through your awareness and gently return to the sound of the music.

Afterwards, reflect on your experience in your journal. Check in with your body, breath and mind – does anything feel different? Do you feel calmer? Or perhaps happy, or sad, or something else? Be curious – how do you know that’s how you feel? What’s happening in your body?
