Mindfulness practices like those I’ve been sharing all month not only reduce stress and increase attention, they also open you up to more divergent thinking.
Today’s invitation is to take a look around your work space or where you usually sit.
Take a few deep breaths and then slowly look around your space. Try to find something you haven’t paid attention to for a while or perhaps not even noticed before. Really take a look at this item or area. Notice the textures, light and shadow, colours, shape and size.
What is this thing you have noticed? Where did it come from? What does it make you think of? Do you associate it with any memories?
Afterwards capture a few lines in your journal about this experience. What was it like to slowly look around your environment? What things came to your attention that you perhaps hadn’t noticed for a while? How did it feel to slowly contemplate the item?
